Recognizing Text StructureText structure refers to the way a text is organized. Recognizing text structure is important—if readers understand how a text is organized, they will be better able to understand the text and to remember important parts of it. Readers use text structure as a framework for understanding and remembering. In Digging Reading, students learn about two basic types of text: narrative text and expository text. They also learn about the four main parts of a narrative text: setting, characters, the problem or problems, and the how the problem or problems are solved.
